These 2 are two different things and have different application in large scale projects. e.g. in industrial plants the transmitters are some sort of electrical instruments that can measure the temperature, pressure, fluid level etc and send the analogue signal to the control system, while transformers provide the electricity to the plant as a main incomer.

I’ll stay with my own topic, offshore wind, for this one. If an offshore wind farm is close to the shore (say, a few kilometers) then the transformer will be built on the coast, because it is cheaper to install it onshore compared to offshore. If the wind farm is far from the coast the transformer will be built near the wind farm. One big electricity cable (called an ‘export cable’) is then installed on the seabed from the transformer to the shore. Ideally the export cable lands close to a big town or city so that the transport distance for the electricity from wind farm to consumers is as short as possible.
