A drone is usually like a mini helicopter with 4 or 6 small propellers. By changing the speed of the propellers in a certain way you can tell the drone to go up or forwards or anyway you want it to go really.
The drone has a strong antenna so it can receive signals from the remote control and a big battery so it can stay in the air for a nice long time. Most people stick a camera on their drones to take photographs from the air, and in some places people are using them to deliver pizzas!
