Most of the experiments I do are done in the wave pool in our lab. We want to know how floating things, like floating wind turbines, behave in the waves in the ocean. So, we make small versions of them, put them in the wave pool and throw waves at them.
We have all sorts of equipment to measure the movements of the small scale models, measure the height of the waves we make, and to measure the force of the waves on the scale models.
When we have all that data we can make some calculations with them to figure out what all those movements and forces in real-life would be. If we like those numbers then other engineers can make the full scale versions of the floating wind turbines and put them in the ocean so we can start making renewable energy and save the planet.
